BBM-Sara UniTeam woos vote-rich Laguna

STA. CRUZ, Laguna: The tandem of presidential candidate Ferdinand

“Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio continued courting voters from Calabarzon, the country’s most vote-rich region, by visiting Laguna on Friday.

Thousands clad in red and green came out to support the BBM-Sara UniTeam as they held separate campaign rallies in the provincial capital of Laguna and Sta. Rosa City.

In Sta. Cruz, top local officials led by Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez were in full force during the UniTeam grand rally that attracted a huge crowd.

“Aking pong karangalan, na ipakilala sa inyo, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” Hernandez said on stage as he introduced Marcos, the standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

Hernandez, a stalwart of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan backed by President Rodrigo Duterte, also introduced Marcos’ running mate as “Vice President Inday Sara Duterte.”

In his speech, Hernandez acknowledged the presence of Laguna Vice Gov. Karen Agapay as well as the 18 mayors of Laguna led by mayors’ league president, Edgar Ramos.

Also on hand were members of the UniTeam Senate slate including Sherwin Gatchalian, Loren Legarda, Mark Villar, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Harry Roque Jr., Herbert Bautista, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, Gregorio Honasan 2nd, Rodante Marcoleta, Robin Padilla, Gilbert Teodoro and Larry Gadon.

After the campaign activity, Hernandez hosted lunch for the UniTeam.

Marcos and Duterte-Carpio also held a caravan from Biñan City to Sta. Rosa City before heading to another grand rally at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex.

The BBM-Sara UniTeam has consistently led pre-election surveys for their respective positions.

With its 8.7 million voters as of 2019, Calabarzon is seen as a major battleground, especially for Marcos and Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, his closest rival for the presidency.

In their match-up during the 2016 vice presidential race, Marcos carried Cavite, Laguna and Rizal. Robredo, ironically, won the votes for the entire region by just over 100,000 votes.

Robredo is also heavily campaigning in the region although on Friday, the Vice President was in Negros Ocidental.

Aside from Marcos and Robredo, the other key figures vying for the presidency are Senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Emmanuel “Manny” Paquiao, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, and labor leader Leodegario “Ka Leody” de Guzman.
